2018 Block 6 Cabernet Sauvignon
Our treasured and strikingly picturesque Block 6 has delivered a stunning and sophisticated wine. Aromas of wild blueberry and crème de cassis rise from the glass, followed by layers of vanilla, tobacco leaf and savory smoked meats. The lush dark fruit continues on the palate, where firm tannins and refreshing acidity hint at this wine’s excellent aging potential. The finish is complex and lingering, with notes of plum, purple roses, dark berry fruit and exotic spice.

Our renowned vineyard features ten benchland and hillside blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon. To spotlight the rich diversity of our property, we occasionally craft small-production Cabernets from our finest blocks and barrels. These wines represent the pinnacle of our portfolio. This special limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our acclaimed Block 6, which is planted to Clone 7, terraced on volcanic soils.
After a wet spring that energized the vines, summer brought consistently warm weather to Sonoma County. Our vineyard set an average size crop, and thanks to a full canopy, we had ideal shade on the fruit. As a result, our vines produced pristine grapes, with excellent natural acidity, lovely balance, and pure varietal flavors.
Key fermentation techniques included 100% whole berries, indigenous yeast, a punch-down regimen in a stainless steel open-top fermenter, and an extended 21-day maceration period. To accentuate its bright character our Block 6 Cabernet was made entirely from free-run wine and aged in our finest French oak barrels (66% new) for 18 months.
