Vineyards
This wine comes from Block 17, our premier block of Zinfandel, planted to the prized 115-year-old Teldeschi clone. Year after year, this block produces our most concentrated, deeply colored and focused Zinfandel. Though 2015 growing season delivered the earliest harvest in our history, and very low yields, the quality and concentration of the grapes was exceptional. A warm winter and spring led to early budbreak and veraison. High temperatures in August further accelerated the pace of harvest, but with yields down by as much as 30%, everything was able to ripen beautifully, delivering lovely intensity.
The Vintage
The finest lots of our Block 17 Zinfandel were fermented as 100% whole berries in open-top tanks, where they spent approximately 15 days on the skins. Aging was done entirely in French oak barrels. The wine was racked twice and spent 15 months in barrel, with 33% of the oak being new.
